The Irish Society has been active in the greater Ottawa-Gatineau area in various forms since 1957. In 1995, the Society was re-organized and officially incorporated in the Province of Ontario as The Irish Society of the National Capital Region.

The Society’s main objectives are the promotion of Irish / Irish-Canadian culture and heritage, and the strengthening and support of the Irish / Irish-Canadian community in the Ottawa region.

The Society works closely with other local Irish organizations such as:
  • Capital Feis
  • Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann
  • National Irish Canadian Cultural Centre
  • Ottawa Gaels Gaelic Football Club
  • Ottawa Irish Rugby Club
  • Tara Players Theatre of Ottawa

The Irish Society NCR also works with the Ireland Fund of Canada, and the Embassy of Ireland in Ottawa.

The Irish Society’s activities include:

  • Irish Week in March featuring
    Ottawa Irish Festival (previously Irish Week) held annually in mid-March, featuring a variety of cultural and social events, including the annual St. Patrick’s Parade and Party, and the Erin Luncheon in support of St. Patrick’s Home of Ottawa. Click here for further details.

  • operation of the ISNCR website
  • operation of our Seniors' Drop-In Centre
  • Celtic Cross Memorial commemoration

An elected volunteer Board of Directors manages the affairs of the Society. Our Annual General Meeting is held in June. People interested in joining the Society, or becoming active in the activities of the Society are encouraged to contact us.
