Our
Council's Community Committee has taken the lead in bringing attention
to issues affecting the role of Catholics and all Christians in a secular
society. Members of this Committee drafted the attached resolutions. The
membership of Council 12158 approved both resolutions.
- The Inclusion
of Prayer in the Public Square - Our Council passed a resolution
in 2003 on The Inclusion of Prayer in the Public Square. This
was submitted to the Ontario State Convention. The resolution was passed
by a vote of delegates at the convention held in May of that year.
- The Participation
of All for the Common Good - In 2004, our Council passed and
submitted another resolution. This resolution concerned The Participation
of All for the Common Good and it upheld the right of Christians
to express positions on abortion, euthanasia, marriage and other issues
without being subject to criticisms of intolerance. Unfortunately this
resolution was not presented for a vote at the Ontario Convention of
the Knights of Columbus in the spring of 2004. We feel there is a great
deal of merit to this resolution and that in the current climate, it
is timely and necessary.
