Basketball Free Throw Competitions PDF Print E-mail

Every year, Saint Patrick's Knights of Columbus participate in the Basketball Free Throw competitions.  The purpose of the free throw program is to promote good sportsmanship and healthy competition among young people from nine to fourteen years of age.

The program is open to all students.  Our schools are Corpus Christi, Saint Daniel's and Saint Mary's.

At the school competitions, the young people take fifteen throws.  The one scoring the highest number of baskets is declared the winner.  We have winners in each of the age groups for both the boys and girls.

We distribute certificates and medals to the winners and certificates to all participants.  The winners at the school level go on to the district and regional finals.

For the past number of years, brother knight Tom Furmanczyk has been mainly responsible for the organization and operation of the basketball free throw for Saint Patrick's Basilica Council.  If you have ever taken part in these free throw events, you know how much fun these kids have on the basktetball court.  The district and regional contests brings out the sharpshooters and brother knights have great fun watching and scoring the events.

Ontario has the highest rate of participation among all the state councils throughout the Knights of Columbus.
