Ontario State Convention PDF Print E-mail

A controversial resolution supporting a more active political role for the Knights of Columbus was passed by a vote of 194 to 166 at the Ontario State Convention of the Knights of Columbus held in Toronto over the Victoria Day weekend.

The resolution would have the Knights of Columbus endorse candidates for political office based on  a candidate's support  for "Catholic values", i.e. their positions on abortion, euthanasia, stem cell research, marriage, etc.  The resolutions committee had recommended rejection of the resolution.  This resolution will be forwarded on to the Supreme Council in New Haven.

Nat Gallo was elected the new State Deputy by acclamation and replaces Jack Clancey.  Dan Heffernan, the former pro-life chairman and activist, was elected Warden over Kevin Daudlin and Joseph Cinci.  Dan Heffernan mounted a spirited and highly-visible campaign at the Doubletree Hotel, where the convention was held.
